  16. <p>     SPIES LIKE THEM. Two weeks ago, Spy magazine sent two
  17. reporters out to tail Senator Edward Kennedy and Republican
  18. Party chief Lee Atwater for an expose of their liberated
  19. life-styles. Instead Spy's spies got exposed. Taking the least
  20. clandestine approach, they talked to just about every reporter
  21. in the capital for tips. Naturally, Kennedy and Atwater got
  22. wind of the plot and spent the most chaste week of their lives,
  23. barely leaving their desks for lunch. Meanwhile, the reporters
  24. missed the biggest sex-and-drug story of the year when Mayor
  25. Marion Barry was arrested on the seventh floor of the Vista
  26. International Hotel, just down the hall from where the intrepid
  27. duo were staying.
